As an alternative to e-Verify, perhaps we should consider a biometric Social Security card. Oren and company might explore the pros and cons of that idea compared to e-Verify, which never seems to get implemented. For instance, a big pro is that the American people are likely to be favorably disposed to what would amount to a national ID and proof of citizenship. Has that idea ever been poll tested?
Really have been enjoying the new content there. Y'all are doing a great job. I recommend all of the American Compass works to all of my friends in grad school at Pepperdine SPP. Thank you for what you do Oren
“We could expand the U.S. workforce by raising the Social Security and Medicare retirement ages to 75 or 85, or abolish retirement altogether, forcing Americans to work until they die. We could repeal laws against child labor and legalize the employment of four-year-old chimney sweeps and six-year-old match girls. We could increase aggregate output by abolishing wages and hours laws. If most workers labored seven days a week, twelve hours a day, from childhood until they died of old age, U.S. GDP would rise considerably, even as per worker productivity remained the same.”
Look forward to the defense of the ideas in future issues
I’m belly laughing at Oren’s citation, he apparently missed the inaugural ceremony with the aging white male billionaires-Mark, Jeff, Elon et al, who were given the choicest of seats. Oh, and those pardons of violent felons! How does Don get seemingly smart people to check their brains and integrity at the door? And I quote: “The Republican Party has been handed a great gift: a detoxification of the party’s image as a narrow coalition of rich CEOs and aging white voters.” Good luck America.
Yes, they’re far richer and more influential. But equally self interested. The oligarchs have proven weak and spineless like the elites in the Republican Party. They know the truth. Sadly, like JD, Little Marco, Elise Stefanik et al, they’ve gone from telling the truth about Don in their public utterances to pathetic, public displays of obsequiousness. It’s all on tape. I suppose their “evolution” has been driven by a burst of concern for America writ large, and a newfound belief in Don’s prowess. But, perhaps it’s simply what it appears to be. If only they felt a shred of obligation to give back to the system that has allowed them to achieve so much.

Got a malware warning when I tried to load the site. Assume it was the tech lords trying to suppress you but it demands some attention.

the new rich donors are not the rich donors of the past. Silicon Valley donors are very different from the Koch bros.
