Uh, let’s see here. The GOP ran with no policy platform of any kind in 2020, and now has a de minimus edition for 2024. Trump himself lives in a fantasy world where he fixes problems by virtue of magical beautiful greatness and incantations about the cultural left and his personal enemies. The party line twists around on its neck from day to day depending on his rants of the moment. So the biggest problem facing the country is that Harris is posing a challenge to this magnificent policy machine by presenting an acceptable alternative without specific proposals on large scale problems? I get that she won’t be able to govern in a vacuum, but first she has 95 days to defeat an deteriorating nihilist, and I don’t think that starts with a white paper on tax and spending tradeoffs, or natalist policies either for that matter.

It's hard to conceive of a situation in which the wellbeing of our universe requires more economists.

wow amazing. And that economist got that in the WSJ? He's a simpleton. Well just about all of these economists have handlers and owners. Find out who they are, and this will answer most of your questions. He should have put a fancy math equation with it too, to show how smart he thinks he is.

"The moral is that we need well-trained economists. Economists know things that are true, important and entirely counterintuitive to anyone who hasn’t had the right kind of training..."

I'm surprised you didn't mention this doozy, Oren! I'm still laughing about it! Listen to us, the Professionals, we know what we're doing. Just like we did with bringing China into the WTO and financializing our economy. Don't ask too many questions - you don't have the right 'training'.

Stand with allies, eh. What allies? The big 3, UK, France and Germany are now profoundly non-democratic and resemble failed states. Add in Canada which is not as important but our biggest trading partner. A gaggle of E. Europe NATO types are trying to start WW3. It's America Alone and we don't have our act together.

I see your point but I appreciate the banal at times as an effective method to communicate complex ideas. If the ballot is marketplace of ideas and not a popularity contest of pandering, and we are to adhere to civic norms, civil discourse, courtesy and mutual respect even while disagreeing, health mayo summed it up nicely. Behind the simple list is a complex history/nuance of why this should/could work. It also speaks to the founding principles say more than Marxism, fascism, autocracy, crony capitalism. Arguably the monopoly issues are not addressed in Corporate power. Having been called a thatcherite, (how can you be a thatcherite in 2024? its like calling a Greek game theorist a closet sexist, misogynist and passive aggressive conformist opportunist. :-D) I don't want to go backwards. I dont think anyone's children do either. Good post. Thank you

I like your focus on the "how" aspects of public policy and economic reporting. HOW are conservatives to implement their policies (answer: don't accept failure, vote out the incompetents). HOW are economists to provide useful forecasts (answer: better and more meaningful data). Keep up the good work.
